Frogfish - Antennariidae


The frogfish are one, living in shallow water, group belonging to a large family of fish with a fishing rod with bait to catch prey. The fishing rod is actually a modified first spine of the dorsal fin consists of two parts. There is the 'esca' or the bait which they mainly feed on their prey mimic. It also "illicum" or bait fishing rod with which they do move around just like a real shrimp, worm or small fish. Frogfish lead a hidden life, and can perfect camouflage. Some young frogfish mimic nudibranchs and flatworms after Polyclad order to escape hunters. There are 12 genera and at least 41 different known species.
